What are thematic funds?

Thematic funds are collective investments that focus on a larger number of companies that can be assigned to the fund's theme, regardless of industry, turnover or region. In general, thematic funds are based on megatrends or structural changes that are likely to have a significant impact on future economic development. Thematic funds invest accordingly in the equities of companies that are likely to benefit to an above-average extent from these trends and changes. Thematic funds enable investors to participate in the development of specific areas of interest that they favor in a broadly diversified manner. The diversification effect associated with thematic funds provides a certain degree of protection against price setbacks. On the other hand, they are more susceptible to price fluctuations due to the increased focus on a specific topic.

What are the special features of Swisscanto's thematic funds?

Swisscanto aims to invest in tomorrow's megatrends with its thematic funds. These include the topics of “Digital Economy”, “Circular Economy”, “Healthy Longevity”, “Water” and “Climate”. The funds focus on companies that provide technologies and innovative solutions for upcoming challenges and have the potential to participate disproportionately in the megatrends with their products and services. The Swisscanto thematic funds are sustainable investment funds in accordance with Article 9 SFDR (Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation, an EU disclosure regulation). Financial products classified under Article 9 SFDR are also referred to as dark green funds and are considered to be particularly sustainable. The thematic funds are managed by the Asset Management division of Zürcher Kantonalbank. Thematic investments with a focus on sustainability have a long tradition here. For example, the expertise of the two funds on the topics of “water” and “climate” has been in existence for 17 years.
